Five Tips to Bounce Back From Holidays

The holidays have come yet again, but you’re worried you might indulge a little too much?

No worries!

One day of binge eating or even one week WILL NOT destroy your months of hard work.

But what are some action steps that you can take to reduce the damage and bounce back for the new year?

 Let’s dive in!

Prepare For Your Return

A goal without a plan is just a dream. Waiting until after the holidays to create a game plan for your training and nutrition is already too late. Prepare in advance now, so you can better execute on the actions it takes to achieve your goals.

Get Some Fresh Air!

Walking after a gluttonous meal is one of the best things you can do to improve digestion and put some of that energy you consumed to work. Your activity level is already reduced since you might be away from home aka (the gym). So instead grab the family (doggos too!), take a walk, and admire the Christmas decorations across the neighborhood!

Meal Prep > Leftovers

Just because Christmas foods are available doesn’t mean you have to eat them every meal for days on end. Avoid some of the leftovers by preparing other nutritious meals just like you would do when you meal prep for the week! Plan some meal ideas, make a small grocery list, and prepare them in advance. Just having something available in the fridge other than that pie or cornbread can go a long way. Need some ideas for Meal Prepping? Become Water My Friend

It’s easy to forget about properly hydrating when you have food, eggnog, and alcohol at your finger tips. Take the time to drink water frequently throughout the day before, during, and after meals. It will fill up your stomach and cause you to eat less. If you’re someone with a black hole as a stomach (guilty), then the water will aid in the digestion to prevent a long term food coma. Also, if you’re sharing a few drinks with your family, try to drink a full glass of water for every drink you have. The food coma and hangover combo is definitely not fun!

Hit The Sack Consistently

You might have off of work for the holidays, but one thing you don’t want to do is change your sleep routine. Sleeping in can mess up your circadian rhythm or your bodies schedule for when it normally shuts down for the night. Once the holidays are over, it’s going to be even harder to get back on schedule if you decide to dream about the future for a few extra hours. So try your best not to change your sleep schedule much by going to bed and waking up like you usually do when the holidays are unfortunately over.
